As described in an update to our 2nd Quarter 2007 fundraiser, we’re looking for one big supporter to get us “over the hump” and close to our goal … and we’re willing to cough up the goodies to get that supporter’s $1000. We are offering one, and only one, “premium package.” Once it’s bought, we’ll take this page down. If two people send us a thousand bucks, the first one gets the package, the second one gets … a full refund! Here’s the package: - A $100 gift certificate good for anything at Laissez Faire Books. - A full year of advertising on Rational Review. If you look in the right sidebar of any page at rationalreview.com, you’ll see the Blogads strip. We’ll keep one of the five available spaces in that strip open for your exclusive use for a full year. At our lowest pricing, that’s an $800 value. - A full year of advertising on Kn@ppster — same terms, $240 value. - A one-year contextual text link ad in the sidebar areas of each of three sites (it can be a different one for each site): Rational Review (lower right sidebar, value $156), Kn@ppster (upper right sidebar, value $492), and BradSpangler.Com (middle left sidebar, value $492). Here’s the calculator we used to establish those values. Total putative value of the package: $2,280. Before getting more detailed, here’s your chance to buy it. If you want those details, see below and then come back! OK, now for those details: - After you purchase this package (within, say, 24 hours), we’ll purchase your LFB gift certificate and have it sent to you, or to whomever you designate. - The terms on the Blogads are simple: When we don’t have paying advertisers, we normally run our own ads — affiliate links and such. YOUR ad will always appear BEFORE those “internal” ads. It may move down some in the order when we have new paid ads … but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Changing up the order of ads means that readers notice ads they had become used to seeing in one place. We’ll definitely treat you right. The maximum Blogads run time is three months, so what you really have here is four three-month ads on each site … a total of eight ads. Use them to promote your projects or enterprises. Or, use them to promote sites or projects you like.* Sell books or other things using affiliate links. Whatever. - The “contextual text link ads” have to be short and sweet, and should be “keywordy” to be most effective. For example, “Flags and Banners” works. “Click here for a big selection of the flags of various countries and banners from universities all over the United States” doesn’t. Short, sweet and “keywordy” makes it more likely that search engines will pull up the pages that the ads run on, and that the users will then click on the ads. Another side benefit of these ads is that all three of the sites they run on carry a “Google Page Rank” of 5. That’s higher than most sites, and since “page rank” is an interactive sort of thing, those links will likely help pull YOUR site’s page rank up, meaning that it will show up closer to the top of Google search listings, which in turn means that you’ll get more traffic that way, too. - Yes, there is one catch: We will not, under any circumstances, accept Blogads or contextual text link ads that we deem offensive. If you’re a Nazi, we don’t want your $1,000 … or at least we’re not willing to sell our credibility to you for that price. No racist stuff. No porn. Etc., etc. We’ll be eminently reasonable about this, but please consider yourself forewarned, m’kay? That’s the skinny. * Rational Review News Digest is NOT a government-registered “non-profit” or “not for profit,” and therefore your contribution does NOT constitute a “tax-deductible charitable donation.” However, if you use your ad space to promote government-registered “non-profit” or “not-for-profit” organizations, you may be able to talk them into treating THAT as such a donation, either at the values stated above or some other agreed-upon value. That’s between you and them. |
