“Police said four men used hammers to smash the jewelry cases of one dealer about 3:30 p.m. The robber snatched up jewelry and began to run through the crowd when a vendor emerged and went after him. ‘He pulled a gun and he just shot him,’ she said. ‘I didn’t know he was going to pull the trigger. I ran. I took cover and ran.’ The robber, hit in the back, staggered a few feet and collapsed. The shooter walked up and stood over him. ‘He said, ‘That’s what you get. I hope you don’t die,” Police officers swarmed the scene, arresting the wounded man and an apparent accomplice trying to get away. Hart said the District Attorney’s Office will review the vendor’s action to determine if the shooting was lawful.” (12/14/10)

The battle carried over into the parking lot, where a 30-year-old woman who was putting her child into a vehicle was shot and killed, The Sacramento Bee reported. Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Tim Curran said the woman evidently was an innocent bystander.” (12/14/10)

“A road rage incident led to a shooting in Seminole County late Tuesday, deputies said. Deputies were called to the side of Marsh Road near County Road 426 about 7:11 p.m. Tuesday. A sheriff’s official said two men had pulled over and later gotten into an altercation. At some point during the altercation, deputies said, one of the men drew a gun and fired, stiking the other. The man shot suffered what deputies described as a ‘very minor’ wound. It did not appear likely that there would be an arrest in the shooting late Tuesday. Deputies said it appeared the shooting was likely in self-defense.” (12/15/10)

“No other state has produced more guns seized by police in the brutal Mexican drug wars than Texas. In the Lone Star State, no other city has more guns linked to Mexican crime scenes than Houston. And in that Texas oil town, no single independent dealer stands out more for selling guns traced from south of the border than Bill Carter. Carter, 76, has operated four Carter’s Country stores in the Houston metropolitan area over the past half-century. In the past two years, more than 115 guns from his stores have been seized by the police and military in Mexico.” (12/14/10)

“Possible amendments to gun laws that are intended to ease restrictions on owning and carrying small arms have faced much criticism in Turkey. The bill, currently in subcommittee at Parliament, ensures easier access to guns, allowing people to own as many as five weapons and the right to carry two of them at one time. Some civil society organizations underline that such regulations will lead to more crime and will threaten lives, especially those of women and children, but supporters of the amendments argue that easing procedures to obtain a license for weapons will make it easier to track them.” (12/14/10)

“Allegheny County district attorney’s office will determine whether a 20-year-old woman was justified when she fatally shot a teenager in Munhall early Friday with a gun she says she wrestled away from the male during an armed robbery …. According to Mr. Schurman, the woman told detectives she had gone to a convenience store within a few blocks of her home and made a purchase. As she was walking in an alley in the rear of the 800 block of Ravine Street, Mr. Heath approached her, brandished a gun and demanded money. The woman then fought with the man, disarmed him and shot him.” (12/11/10)
