“Two weeks ago, I had never heard of South Ossetia and I could only tell you four things about Georgia. 1. It was a former Soviet republic. 2. It was somewhere on the southern periphery of Russia, but I could not tell you exactly where. 3. It was Joe Stalin’s home country. 4.
