“Sen. John McCain has shuffled his top advisers after months of hand-wringing among Republican political operatives over his presidential campaign’s focus. Senior adviser Steve Schmidt, who had been traveling with McCain, is taking over day-to-day operations. Campaign manager Rick Davis shifts to a less central role. … The changes took place amid concern in GOP ranks about the direction of McCain’s campaign and the seeming inconsistency of his message.
