Phillies 2008: An Open Letter to Libertarians
Posted on 11.16.06 by George Phillies

We have glorious prospects before us. The Democratic and Republican parties shot themselves in the feet. With hand grenades.

Our national debt increases a half a trillion dollars per year. Congress debates flag burning.

Income of nonsupervisory workers is stagnant. Congress debates gay marriage.

The trade deficit approaches eight hundred billion dollars a year. Congress renamed French fries. Twice!

The cost of energy soars. Congress tried nationalizing the Schiavo family.

The War On Iraq drags on. Congress banned internet gambling.

It’s time for a change. The libertarian change. It’s time to elect grown-ups to Federal office.

I urge you to consider two questions. First, how should we choose our next Presidential candidate? Second, who should you choose as that candidate?

What matters in a candidate? Wherever the President goes, he is followed by America’s nuclear war codes. Those codes mean that in 30 minutes the President can destroy Western civilization.

The American people know: this is a grave responsibility for a serious, trustworthy person. We must nominate such a person, or be rejected by the American people.

For each candidate, ask yourself: Does this person have serious educational and professional credentials? Is he in touch with reality, or is he fond of every sort of conspiracy theory? Is he someone your fellow Americans will trust? Does he pay his taxes? Is he a person of sober temperament?

For each candidate, ask yourself: What has he done for us? Our presidential nomination is for someone with a long record of loyal hard work. That’s why most presidential candidates are men of real achievement. General Eisenhower led our armies to victory in Europe. Ronald Reagan was president of a major labor union and then governor.

For each candidate, ask yourself: How is his campaign organized? What is his electronic outreach, his advertising, his record of spending money? How has he campaigned?

Then choose our nominee.

I’m George Phillies. I hope you will support me as our next presidential candidate. My presidential campaign web site is www.phillies2008.com. I’m a physicist. My degrees are from MIT. I have an international reputation in my scientific field. There are no scandals in my past.

I’m running on issues Americans care about, issues like
Iraq.
Civil Liberties.
Border Security.
Educating our Children.
Stagnant Take-Home Pay.

Energy and the Environment

My campaign will do what Libertarian Presidential campaigns should do:
Invest in outreach, not fancy real estate or highly paid staff
Create volunteer organizations that outlive the campaign
Support our other candidates.
In fact, I’m already supplying downloadable radio ads for your campaigns, not to mention funding LibertyForAmerica.NET , the Libertarian answer to Daily Kos.

In 1998 I ran for Congress. We had eleven debates and joint appearances, one rebroadcast twice coast to coast. Whenever the press named the victor, they said: Libertarian is surprise winner. You don’t have to wonder if I can debate on serious Federal issues: I’ve already done it.

Successfully.

I’ve already published a list of campaign stands. End to our War on Iraq. Send spies to catch Bin Laden. Negate the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, the Kelo decision, and illegal warrantless wiretaps. Punish criminal acts of the Bush administration. Strengthening education with tax credits, and repeal No Child Left Behind. Protect the environment: Move the government to renewable energy sources via fixed-price contracts with private suppliers.

I’m George Phillies. I hope you will support me as our next presidential candidate.
